📋 The Rules

Terms of Use

Plain English, because you should actually be able to read this.

Last updated: July 28, 2026

These terms cover your use of TeenMoney.org ("TeenMoney," "we," "us"), including every guide, article, worksheet, download, and email newsletter we publish. By using the site, you agree to them. If you do not agree, that is fine, but please stop using the site.

The short version: Everything here is free educational content, not financial, legal, or tax advice. You are responsible for your own money decisions. Read our stuff, use what helps, and check with a parent or a professional before doing anything big. We are not liable if something you read here does not work out.

Who can use this site

TeenMoney.org is written for people aged 13 and older. Reading the site is open to anyone, but you must be 13 or older to join our newsletter or send us your email address. See our Privacy Policy for what happens to that email address.

If you are under 18, we assume a parent or guardian is aware you are here and okay with it. A lot of what we write about, like opening a bank account, getting a work permit, or opening an investing account, legally requires an adult to sign with you anyway.

This is education, not advice

This is the most important section on the page, so we are going to be blunt about it.

Everything on TeenMoney.org is general educational information. It is not financial advice, investment advice, tax advice, legal advice, or career advice tailored to you. We do not know your situation, your income, your family, your state's laws, or your goals. We have never met you.

We are not licensed financial advisors, accountants, attorneys, or brokers, and nothing you read here creates any kind of advisor relationship between us. Before you do something that involves real money or real legal commitments, talk to a parent or guardian, and where it matters, talk to a licensed professional.

  • Investing. Investing involves risk, including the risk of losing money. Past performance does not predict future results. Any example returns we use, such as the ones in our compound interest examples, are illustrations to teach a concept, not a promise of what you will earn.
  • Earnings. When we describe what teens can charge for babysitting, lawn care, tutoring, or anything else, those are ranges we have researched, not guarantees. What you actually earn depends on your area, your effort, and your customers.
  • Taxes. Our tax explainers are simplified on purpose. Your actual filing situation may be different. The IRS and your state are the authorities, not us.
  • Laws and work rules. Child labor rules, work permit requirements, and babysitting age guidelines change and vary by state. We do our best to keep our state pages accurate, but you should confirm anything legal with your state's labor department before you rely on it.

Your own decisions

You are responsible for what you do with the information here. If you start a business, take a job, spend money, save money, or invest money after reading a TeenMoney guide, that is your decision and your outcome. Please use good judgment, and please involve a trusted adult when the stakes are real.

Safety when you work

A lot of our content is about earning money, often by working for people in your neighborhood. We give safety suggestions in those guides, but we cannot vet your clients or supervise your jobs. Tell a parent or guardian where you are going and who you are working for, meet new clients with an adult present, and leave any situation that feels wrong. Your safety comes before any amount of money.

Affiliate links and money we make

Some links on this site are affiliate links, which means if you click one and buy something, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This never changes what we recommend or what we tell you about a product. When an article contains affiliate links, we say so in the article.

We are not responsible for products, services, or websites we link to. If you buy something from another company, your purchase is governed by that company's terms, not ours.

Our content

The articles, guides, worksheets, graphics, and design on TeenMoney.org belong to us and are protected by copyright. Here is what you can and cannot do with them.

You may:

  • Read, print, and save our content for your own personal use
  • Share links to our pages anywhere you like
  • Quote a short passage with credit and a link back to the page
  • Use our free printables and worksheets with your own family
  • Use our free printables and worksheets in your classroom, if you are a teacher, at no cost

You may not:

  • Copy our articles onto another website, in whole or in substantial part
  • Sell our content or our downloads, or bundle them into something you sell
  • Republish our work under someone else's name
  • Scrape the site in bulk to train a model or build a competing product
  • Remove our branding or copyright notices from anything you print

If you want to use something in a way that is not on the allowed list, email us and ask. We are usually happy to say yes, especially for teachers and youth programs.

Paid products in the shop

If you buy a planner, guide, or other digital download from us, you get a personal, non-transferable license to use it yourself. You cannot resell it, share the file publicly, or distribute copies. Digital products are delivered as files, so once you have downloaded a product we generally cannot offer a refund, but if something is broken or you did not get your file, email us and we will fix it or refund you.

The newsletter

Our newsletter is free. You can unsubscribe any time using the link at the bottom of every email. We may include affiliate links in it, and when we do, we say so. We may stop, pause, or change the newsletter whenever we want.

Using the site fairly

Do not try to break the site, attack it, overload it, get into parts of it that are not public, or use it to do anything illegal. This is a small site run by a family, and it costs us real time and money to keep it up.

Links to other sites

We link to outside sites when they are useful, for example the IRS, state labor departments, and banks. We do not control those sites and we are not responsible for their content, their accuracy, or their privacy practices. A link is not an endorsement of everything on the other end of it.

We try to be accurate, but we cannot promise it

We research what we publish and we update pages when things change. Even so, the site is provided "as is." We do not warrant that everything on it is accurate, complete, or current, and we do not promise the site will always be available or error free. Rates, laws, program rules, and prices change, sometimes faster than we can edit.

If you spot something wrong, please tell us. We would rather fix it than defend it.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, TeenMoney.org and the people who write for it are not liable for any loss or damage that results from using this site or relying on anything published here, including lost money, lost income, lost opportunities, or investment losses. You use the site at your own risk.

Some places do not allow limits like this, so if you live somewhere that restricts them, this section applies to you only as far as the law allows.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms, we will update the date at the top of this page. If we change something significant, we will say so in the newsletter rather than quietly editing this page. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the new version.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state where TeenMoney.org is operated, without regard to conflict of law rules.
